Me and my Internet

Husband, Dad, Navy Officer, Coder, and Tinkerer. I have many interests and am always looking to learn something new. This site is a launching point to the many areas of the Internet that represent me.

  1. The end of the world, or rather... new beginning?

Have you heard?  The world is most likely going to end sometime between October 8th, 2008 and November 5th, 2008. The end will begin on September 10th, 2008.  Predictions from some scientists are in that will “create a black hole that will suck life”.  Ok, so first off… didn’t these scientists go through high school physics?  Nothing sucks… it is a vacuum.  And second, it’s ok, because life will start anew. You see, this experiment... [read more]

  2. [SAFETYNOTICE] Off-Campus - 9/4/2008

Every now and then (a little more frequent than I feel really comfortable with) I get an email from some guy name Eugene R Ferrara, and in this email he talks the details of a robbery/police dealing that occurred near the University of Cincinnati campus. UC is not in the greatest of neighborhoods… but I really believe that something (I don’t know what, but something) could be done to make this area more suitable a... [read more]

  3. Dear Senator McCain (regarding Gov Palin)

Dear Senator McCain, I would like to thank you for choosing Governor Sarah Palin as your vice presidential running partner for the presidency.  You see, I liked some of the words you were saying.  But the thing is I also liked some of the words Senator Obama way saying.  I will admit, I was leaning a bit more towards the Obama side of the country, but I had not made up my mind.  What I... 4. This weekend had some bad Apples

[EDIT] So apparently the Mac gods are playing tricks on me… As soon as I finished publishing this post and closed Firefox, the speaker crackled again.  I turned on iTunes to a little Copland - Fanfare for the Common Man and all was fine… bizarre.  I decided to restart to make sure, and here I am… both speakers are working.  The only thing I can think of was just before the speaker crackled and sizzled... 5. Can I follow you?

So a while back I got a twitter account and was using it to subsribe to news feeds.  All was good.  But it stopped and I never investigated why.  Lately I have gotten back into twittering and have linked it up with my Facebook status message.  I don’t follow that many people yet… because let’s face it… it can only be so much fun to twitter stalk people you don’t really know all too well.... 6. Some Pretty Analytics

I (like most every website owner) am very interested in who the people are that are visiting my site.  Most of the time in a business sense, site owners want to make sure that their site is targeting the people they would like to target, and what can they do to make their site better.  Me on the other hand, with my blog… I just like to see what people are reading and what general... 7. Live Diggnation in San Jose

Tonight I went into San Jose after work to the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts for a live taping of Diggnation at the NVIDIA’s NVISION conference.  It was a blast. Two other Apple interns and myself carpooled over and were a little surprised at the number of people that turned out, not that many.  But looks can be deceiving.  The auditorium holds 4K people.  When the doors opened, we rushed in and were... 8. I should have been rich

As many of my good friends know, I should be rich. In the year 1993, something happened that could have changed my life.  Looking back, it could have been the luckiest break ever.  But I was just eight years old, and I didn’t know any better.  In the year 1993 I was in second grade.  In the year 1993 I had my first memories of computers.  In the year 1993, my life had a changing... 9. Cool idea, funny error message...

About a week ago I watched a video on You Tube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLLzV5qeKyk) and was very impressed. Photos are compiled by location, lighting, colors and all that such to create a 3D look and walkable environment.  Say you are at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.  On all the walks around it, thousands (probably millions… billions?) of pictures have been taken.  This new application would take those pictures and sync them together so that a viewer... 10. When Office Supplies Attack

So I was sitting in my cube today waiting for something to compile and kinda just playing with a staple remover.  I had a piece of paper and was acting like the staple remover was alive and biting through the piece of paper.  It was cool to watch it initially go through the paper.  Then I had this piece of plastic laying around and let the staple remover sink its teeth into that. It was... [read more]
