Me and my Internet

Husband, Dad, Navy Officer, Coder, and Tinkerer. I have many interests and am always looking to learn something new. This site is a launching point to the many areas of the Internet that represent me.

  1. The Value of $0.99 - Frustrations from a Developer

One of the many ways Apple changed the world was by giving a single dollar, real monetary value. The App Store opened up a whole new and exciting world for software developers to flex their digital muscles and see where the wind could carry them.  I have only recently begun my trek into the world of app development, but in these few months, my eyes have truly been opened to the monetary value of digital... 3. The 39 Steps at The Company Theatre

Yesterday my wife took me to see “The 39 Steps”, put on by The Company Theatre.  It was great.  It was based on an Alfred Hitchcock film which was based on an adventure novel by John Buchnan. We had a blast.  The play was taken on by four very funny, talented and ambitious actors (one actress) where over 100 characters were introduced, by just the four.  We had concerns that with all the costume changes... 4. Paw Apps LLC

I have been hard at work for a number of months now on a new project, Paw Apps.  This is a company started by my brother, Tyler, and I to get into the App market.  Right now we are hard at work developing our first app which will hopefully be released sometime in September. There won’t be too many posts on here, my personal blog, regarding announcements for the company, we have a separate blog... [read more]

  5. Cookie Cutter Leadership

Now I am no expert in leadership.  My leadership journey, specifically as an Officer in the US Navy is really just at its beginnings.  But one thing that I have to keep reminding myself of, sometimes daily, is that there is no one key, no cookie cutter example of the perfect leader. Today, I attended the Change of Command and retirement ceremony for my Commanding Officer, a Captain that has honorably served in the US... [read more]

  6. Issues with upgrading to OS X Lion

Upgrading to OS X Lion has been an awful experience.  So many things have gone against the phrase I have always used in reference to Apple, “It just works!” I wanted to put together a quick post of issues I have had with the update and the way the issues have been fixed in case anyone else is getting the same headaches that I’ve been getting. First, I do believe it is relevant to give... [read more]

  7. Inkjet9 and cupsd runaway processes

Today my computer was running hot all day, fans buzzing wildly.  Honestly I didn’t think too much of it since I was working with the iPhone simulator and just assumed that that was the cause. After taking some time off to play with the dog, I came back to it still buzzing loudly.  I checked my iStat Menu to see what processes were taking up the most resources and saw ‘cupsd’.  Google told me it... 8. Five Traits of the Perfect App

I spend a lot of time thinking about the perfect app. I haven’t come up with the answer to the perfect app, but I have decided on some key criteria that the perfect app must possess. The perfect app must… Be social.  I go back and forth on whether the social aspect of the app is mandatory for the user or not.  Either way has it’s benefits.  When dial up started to disappear, the thing on... 9. San Antonio High Speed Internet

I couldn’t find any really recent posts out there about shopping around for San Antonio high speed internet.  Soon, we will be moving into a house and internet is just one of those things that needs to get done FAST! We don’t need anything fancy, just internet that is decent speed and no phone or cable television (I think we might try AppleTV or GoogleTV with Netflix). Here’s the quick and dirty of what I... 10. One Big Social Network

The Internet is rather popular. Well duh… What is interesting about the Internet being so popular is how people interact while on the Internet. There is this huge concept of social networks on the Internet. Facebook, Linkedin, Myspace … Today I came across a tweet from Google introducing their new +1 button. It basically sounds a lot like the Facebook “Like” button. You click +1 on webpages and when your connected friends search for similar... [read more]
