After swearing in, I have been working with my Officer Recruiter and Officer Processor, still, to get all the administrative tasks out of the way. These things have included enrolling me in DEERS and getting my pay set up.
First I had to wait for my official orders, which were more or less “be cool, stay in school”. My orders stated that I was to remain in contact with my OR and finish up my degree as stated in my contract. No worries, I’m ready to be done!
After I received my orders, I was then able to send over a few more bits of information (identification) to my OP and have her get me set up in DEERS. I just found out this morning that everything is squared away and I am able to go to the nearest military installation to obtain an ID, which I will do later this week.
In addition to this I was also told that my first deposit of pay will arrive on Friday! I had read that lots of BDCP-ers had to wait more than a month or even two before receiving their first paycheck. With the amount of waiting that I have had to do previously, I was expecting the worst, but the turnaround was very quick!
It feels as though the initial setup for BDCP is drawing to a close and I will soon get into my routine of contacting my OR twice each month (when the paycheck comes in) and finishing school.
What a trip!
