No I never did make it to Boy Scouts and no I didn’t just watch Lion King… I just flossed my teeth!
There’s something satisfying in knowing that you are well prepared for a particular situation. Whether a brief at work, a big solo in a band concert or even setting the VCR to record your favorite show (ok… I do have a VCR hooked up, but no we don’t use it), the level of preparedness directly correlates to the level of positive anticipation towards that evolution.
Back in college I took Discrete Mathematics at 8am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Yes, painful. I’ll admit that there were more than a few mornings I hit the 3 hour snooze and didn’t make it in (Mom and Dad if you are reading… I did get an ‘A’ in the class). Point of the story is, though, for some reason completing homework for that class was a huge motivation to get to class. I don’t even remember if we got credit for doing the homework, but when I did the work by golly I was going to be in my seat that next class.
What’s this have to do with flossing? Well since I’m already admitting to sleeping through the occasional morning class in college, I’ll also admit that I’ve never been all that good about flossing my teeth. Now I have only ever had one cavity, but still I get lectured to no end each and every time I visit the dentist. For the last few months, though, I would make any dentist proud. With few exceptions I have not only flossed my teeth every single night but I have also used mouth wash! And with that, I will proudly announce to the Internet that I am excited about my next dentist appointment.
Yes, these little moments in life keep a smile on my face… a nice, clean, sparkling smile with no cilantro after a Chipotle burrito!
